FLOOD TIDE

PAINTING DETAILS

STORY OF THE PICTURE

Flood Tide is an original abstract oil painting on canvas, created intuitively through layers of texture, colour and experimentation. Every painting is one of a kind and can never be recreated.

This kind of painting is always a leap into the unknown. Before I begin, I usually have a rough idea of the colour palette and a sense of how the result might turn out – but the final outcome always surprises me.

Not every piece that emerges from this experimental process makes it into the light of day. Quite the opposite. Once the painting has dried, a process of personal curation begins – and more than half of the works don’t make the cut.

The pieces that do show promise are carefully cropped so that only the strongest section remains. I then mount it onto a stretcher, refine it, sign it, varnish it – and finally, let it out into the world.
