STORY OF THE PICTURE
A few years ago I did a commissioned painting by Vincent Van Gogh and fell in love with his style. As is usually the case when I delve into the lives of the masters.
I love this painting with the irises just for its bright and vibrant colors. The area of yellow is dazzling. I wanted to make a copy of the painting somehow. I freely admit that I just wanted to simplify it somehow. I thought of raster the image, like when you load photos on the internet. I divided the roughly one metre image into five centimetre squares and set about colouring it in.
As I filled in the squares and chased the exact shade, I wondered how I hoaxed myself again. After all, it would have been easier to just paint a copy.
But I enjoy the result and I think it was worth the effort. I’m most pleased when someone tells me that they were still waiting for the image to load when they viewed it on their computer or phone.
