STORY OF THE PICTURE

I’m fascinated by the aluminium tiles in the Prague metro. There’s something about their Brutalist aesthetic – stark, yet visually powerful.

Some time ago, I considered buying one at an auction. But then I thought – why not just paint it myself?

And if I’m painting one, why not capture an entire stretch of wall?

This series of twelve life-sized “tiles” took quite some effort, but the final effect is worth it: a generous format, bold colours, and a simple, repeating pattern.

The title of the painting is a subtle nod to tourist souvenirs – my own ironic tribute to a city I truly love.

I recommend seeing the piece in person. Standing in front of nearly three square metres of deep red is a completely different experience than looking at a photo on a screen.
