STORY OF THE PICTURE

I’m not even sure whether I should admit how this abstract piece came into being.

Quite often, accidents create more than a carefully thought-out plan and the desire to keep everything under control.

In my studio, I keep several layers of paper on the floor to protect it from paint. While working, something is always dripping, smearing, or spilling. Every few years, I replace the paper.

This time, one section felt strong enough to stand on its own. I made an author’s cut from it and began working with it as a painting. I gently added a few additional traces and adjusted the composition — and it was done.

I enjoy this piece. I see time and layering in it.
It contains exactly what I try to bring into my work — only here it emerged naturally, without pressure or intention.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MIXED MEDIA TECHNIQUE

Defining the technique in this case is a bit tricky. The surface contains virtually every type of paint that has appeared in my studio over the years. Fortunately, there is a merciful category for situations like this — mixed media.

The paper is firmly mounted onto canvas and properly sealed. The artwork therefore meets all the requirements for standard longevity.
