THE STORY OF THE PAINTING – SCARLET WOMAN

This painting came about by coincidence – as a side effect of a commission where I chose a canvas of the wrong size. Yes, it happens. Luckily, things can be repainted… or transformed. And that’s how this mysterious piece came to life.

Interestingly, the work found its way into my life just as I was deeply reflecting on the role of religion. In this case, art therapy did its job beautifully.

The Scarlet Woman is a symbolic figure from the last book of the Bible – the Revelation of St John. She represents the tension between power and faith, a spiritual metaphor for influence, illusion and excess. Her description is vivid and evocative – a mirror for reflecting on the spiritual world, society and our own responsibility within it.

If you’d like to dive deeper, read chapter 17 of the Book of Revelation. Or just do a little research online.

This painting is not for everyone. But if it stirs something in you, feel free to reach out – I’d love to hear from you.

PAINTING DESCRIPTION

This expressive oil painting explores the contrast between darkness and light. In the deep shadows, subtle traces of light begin to emerge – creating a kind of psychological hum that quietly pulls the viewer in.

At first glance, the image appears almost monochrome, but with time, muted shades and colours begin to surface.

The painting is varnished and ready to hang.
